Studio History

It feels like yesterday, but it was back in the early 2000s when we first had the idea to build a studio together. After years of working in various recording spaces, we wanted to create an accessible, reliable, and truly creative hub. A series of fortunate coincidences led to the design of the FuzzFactory. Construction began, and by 2004, our dream space was ready for the world - kicking things off with recordings for Nena.
More than twenty years later, we’ve had the privilege of working with countless other great artists. And while our acoustic and technical foundation has proven to be excellent, we have constantly refined details and added even more sonic treasures to offer the best possible experience for all upcoming projects.

The Faces Behind the Fuzz:

Michael Tibes

A music fan since my early teens, I built my first amplifier at 13 and started playing guitar at 14. Without knowing it at the time, both would shape the entire course of my life.
When I got the chance to work at the legendary "Chateau du Pape" studio in Hamburg, my professional career took off - first as an assistant, then as a sound engineer. Expanding an SSL 4000G to 72 channels or tracking an album with Helloween was just a regular day at the office back then. My passion for a warm, "fat" sound led me straight to a fascination with vintage gear, laying the foundation for today’s collection of high-end classics.
After that, I spent years working as a freelance engineer in a wide variety of studios. The idea of founding my own space actually came from pure pragmatism: I was tired of constantly hauling a car full of outboard gear around to get the sound I wanted. Together with Christian, the plan was born to create exactly that creative oasis in Berlin: The FuzzFactory.
